1.0.0
The first numbered release of this site.
Very little here is new if you have visited before. The site has been running for years; this is the point where it gets a version number you can quote, and a page where you can see what changed and when.
What the site is today:
- Four sections that swap in place rather than reloading the page: a title card, About, the portfolio, and a way to get in touch.
- Nine portfolio cards. Six of them open a detail view with what the product does, when it shipped, where you can get it, and the technologies behind it. Those six also have a page each of their own, so one project can be linked to on its own.
- A contact section that leads with the address rather than hiding it behind link text, next to links to LinkedIn, GitHub, YouTube and Instagram.
- A link out to the blog, where the side projects end up.
- Arrows and a keyboard to move between sections, and a menu that collapses to a button on a phone.
New in this release:
- A version number at the end of the Contact section, linking to this page. If something here looks wrong, that number says which version of the site you were looking at.
- The copyright sits beside it and is in view again. It had been hidden behind the panel in front of it since the site was rebuilt.
- A plainer voice throughout. Every project now opens by saying what the thing does, rather than by establishing how much of the work was mine.
- About says less, and says it once. It used to greet you a second time one section after the first, and then close by pointing at two places the menu already offers.
- The rotating job titles lost two labels that described a temperament rather than a kind of work.
- Two labels that promised more than they delivered are gone: a "Read More" on cards that leave the site with nothing to read, and a link that offered a product page and landed on a company home page.
- The contact address is a business one now, and it is the same address in every place the site publishes it.
